Edinburgh’s New Gallery Spaces Unveil Treasures of Scottish Art: A Landmark Collection
This week marks the grand opening of these galleries, which will shine a spotlight on the remarkable works of Scotland’s most celebrated artists, including luminaries like the Glasgow Boys, Phoebe Anna Traquair, and Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
It is a historic moment, as these galleries will present the National Galleries Scotland’s extensive collection of Scottish art in one cohesive exhibition, a feat achieved after a protracted construction endeavor that involved creating entirely new gallery spaces adjacent to the iconic Mound in Edinburgh’s city center.
Within these new gallery spaces, visitors will have the privilege of viewing a diverse array of artworks, ranging from Traquair’s intricate embroideries to the pioneering photography captured by David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson. Additionally, the galleries will feature captivating landscapes depicting Victorian Edinburgh and the iconic portrait “The Monarch of the Glen” by Sir Edwin Landseer.
Is Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow Worth Visiting?
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is Scotland’s most visited free attraction. With 22 themed, state-of-the-art galleries displaying an astonishing 8000 objects, the collections are extensive, wide-ranging and internationally-significant.
