Ullapool’s history stretches back thousands of years, with evidence of human settlements along the coast and in some cases on the roadside. Stone circular foundations can still be seen around Rhue and other local sites, some dating as far back as two thousand years. Brochs (old stone forts) are also still in existence at Dun Logie and Rhiroy on Lochside, as well as Strathkanaird, Coigach and Assynt. About a mile north of the village is Dun Canna, an ancient fort system estimated to be around 2,500 years old. At low tide, it’s even possible to spot a Viking fish trap that was built in the 8th Century in the bay below.

Why is Culzean Castle famous?

Culzean Castle is a historic and romantic castle located in Ayrshire, Scotland. It was built by Robert Adam for the 10th Earl of Cassillis and has become famous for its grandeur and elegance. The castle features an impressive oval staircase, a circular saloon, painted ceilings and delicate friezes that are considered some of the finest works of architecture from the period.

Scottish accent vs Irish accent

Both the Scottish and Irish accents have distinctive features that make them distinct from one another. The Scottish accent is generally known for its soft, rolling “r” sound and its use of dropped consonants, while the Irish accent is characterized by a more up-and-down rhythm with longer vowels and harder consonant sounds. Scots tend to pronounce words with a flattened vowel sound and draw out the consonants at the end of a word, while Irish people use a lot of inflections and intonations in their speech.
