First published in 2012 by New Zealand-based publisher Oratia Books, ‘I Need a New Bum!’ was acquired and released in the US by Dover Publications 2014 under the name – “I need a New Butt” Jennifer Feldman, the publisher of Dover, explains that the book’s humor made it a perfect fit for their children’s list. “It’s ridiculous the way kids like to be ridiculous” she says.
Before Janice Clark became an internet sensation, weekly print sales of ‘I Need a New Bum!’ we’re in the double digits. However, since the Scottish Granny’s video began to go viral, it has sold over 100,000 copies and Dover Publications have had to keep running back for reprints.
