Have you heard about the mysterious magic of Sligachan Bridge?
The Sligachan Bridge located on the Isle of Skye is famous for its views of the Cuillin Hills, but it’s also home to a much more mysterious force – magic.
The River Sligachan is said to have been enchanted by fairies, and the story behind it has been passed down for generations. The tale revolves around Scáthach, Scotland’s greatest ever warrior who lived in Dunscaith Castle near the bridge. Her unparalleled skill in combat drew warriors from all over Scotland and Ireland in their attempts to challenge her. One such challenger was the Irish demi-god Cú Chulainn.
The two squared off in a fierce battle that threatened to destroy them both, so Scáthach’s daughter Uathach went to the Sligachan River and pleaded with the fairies to help her mother. The fairy queen appeared to her and instructed her to wash her face in the river if she wanted to save her mother’s life. Uathach followed the instructions and created a feast of such magnificence that the warriors suspended fighting to have this meal. Sitting down eating together created such mutual respect that they were able to call it a draw and a truce were called.
Uathach left behind a bit of magic in the river as well – if you submerge your face completely into its water for 7 seconds and allow it to dry naturally, the fairies will bless you with eternal beauty.
To this day, visitors come from far and wide to experience the mysterious magic of Sligachan Bridge. It is truly a magical place that inspires wonder and admiration in all who visit. The power of the fairies may be gone, but their legend lives on through the beautiful views and stories that can be found in Sligachan Bridge. For centuries it has been an enduring part of Scotland’s culture and traditions, something which we should never forget.
