What Glamping in Scotland Is Really Like
Glamping sounds like the perfect compromise â nature without discomfort. In Scotland, the reality depends entirely on where you book and when. Some glamping sites are magical. Others are overpriced tents with a fairy light. Hereâs how to tell the difference.
- Check if the site has a wood-burning stove, not just âheating.â âHeatingâ in a Scottish glamping pod can mean a small electric fan heater that barely takes the edge off. A wood-burning stove changes everything â the warmth, the atmosphere, the smell. Itâs the difference between camping and actually glamping.
- Remote sites look beautiful but can be isolating. A pod overlooking a Highland loch sounds perfect until you realise the nearest shop is 45 minutes away and thereâs no mobile signal. Bring food, books, and someone you actually want to talk to. Seriously.
- April and October are the best glamping months. Summer is overbooked and overpriced. Winter is genuinely cold even in a heated pod. Spring and autumn give you availability, lower prices, and weather thatâs cold enough to justify the stove but warm enough to sit outside.
- Hot tubs are worth the extra cost â in Scotland especially. After a day of Highland walking in Scottish drizzle, sinking into a wood-fired hot tub under a clear sky is the single best experience in Scottish tourism. Book a site with one. You wonât regret it.
