Is the Hogwarts Express a real train?
No, the Hogwarts Express is not a real train. Although it has appeared in the Harry Potter film series and books, the Hogwarts Express does not exist outside of literature and cinema. In the movies, the train departs from King’s Cross Station Platform 9¾ in London every September 1st to take students to their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In reality, Platform 9¾ is only a movie set, and the Hogwarts Express is nothing more than an illusion created on screen. But as we all know, the magic created by J.K Rowling’s imagination can never be completely replicated in real life!
But…
There is a way to see a real life “Hogwarts Express“
The Jacobite steam train which operates between Fort William and Mallaig in Scotland is the same train used to film many of the Harry Potter scenes for Hogwarts Express, including when it steams across Glenfinnan Viaduct – a location featured in several movies! Taking a ride on this iconic locomotive is an unforgettable experience, and you may even spot some of the same magical creatures that appear in the films! So if you’re ever looking for a dose of wizarding world magic, take a ride on The Jacobite steam train – it’s sure to put a spell on anyone who takes it!
