
How to Make | Traditional Scottish Tablet
Scottish Tablet is a traditional Scottish confectionery, made with sugar, condensed milk and butter. It’s a deliciously sweet treat that has been enjoyed in Scotland for centuries! The creamy texture and rich flavour of this classic dessert make it an absolute delight. With just a few simple ingredients and some attention to detail, you can make your own delicious Scottish Tablet at home.

Ingredients:
– 2 lb caster sugar
– 1/2 cup condensed milk
– 8 oz butter
– 1 tbsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Grease and line a 9 x 13 inch baking tin with parchment paper.
2. Place the sugar, condensed milk and butter in a large heavy bottomed pan and heat gently until melted, stirring constantly.
3. Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin, smooth out with a spatula and leave to cool.
6. Once cooled, cut into squares or slices before serving. Enjoy!
Tips & Variations:
– If you want a crunchy tablet, simmer for an extra 5 minutes.
– For a chocolate twist, add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder in step 3.
– You can turn this into an even richer treat by adding a handful of chopped nuts or dried fruit to the mixture.
– For a traditional Scottish flavour, add 1 teaspoon of whisky in step 4.
– Try using different extracts such as almond, orange or peppermint for a unique twist.
– Add some food colouring for a colourful surprise.
– Serve the tablet with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of cream for an extra indulgent treat.
