One of the castle’s greatest claims to fame today is its screen presence. Fans of Outlander will recognise Doune as Castle Leoch, the ancestral home of Clan MacKenzie. Its dramatic stone walls and rugged setting made it the perfect choice for this time-travelling series. Earlier, it stood in for Winterfell in the original Game of Thrones pilot. And long before that, it provided nearly all the castle scenes in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
