About Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland, the United Kingdom and the British Isles.  With a summit  of 4,411 feet (1,345 m) above sea level it is the highest land in any direction for 459 miles (739 kilometres). Ben Nevis is close to the town of Fort William which is the perfect spot from which to explore the mountain.

Most of the 150,000 people attempting to climb Ben Nevis every year use the Mountain Track from Glen Nevis. The cliffs of the north face are among the highest in Scotland at 700-metre (2,300 ft), providing classic scrambles and rock climbs of all difficulties for all levels of climbers and mountaineers. Ice climbing is also very popular at this location.

At the summit,which is the collapsed dome of an ancient volcano you will find the ruins of an observatory which was continuously staffed between 1883 and 1904. The observatory was used as an observation station to collect Meteorological data collected during this period is still important for understanding Scottish mountain weather.

Ben Nevis Visitor Centre

Parking at the Ben Nevis visitor centre is the most popular and the most used car park. It is advisable to always go into the visitor centre before trekking up Ben Nevis to ensure the weather is suitable and the conditions are safe. The car park is situated next to the visitor centre and there is enough parking for around 80 cars and 4 coaches.
