It’s an age old question and one that people stiill ask to this day In Scotland you will be known as a “True Scotsman” if you do not wear anything beneath your kilt. But what does the actual statistic show?
New research by YouGov reveals that almost 40% or four in ten of Scotsmen go commando under their kilts. So the “True Scotsman” seems to be alive and well.
Sportsmen in Scotland have admitted to wearing underwear and it is true that in some events such as with Highland dancers and athletes, they are obliged by the rules of their various games to compete with underwear beneath their kilts.
What does your average Scotsman do?
According to studies, two thirds (67%) of male Scottish adults say they have worn a kilt, rising to three quarters (74%) for those born in Scotland. Just over half of men wearing kilts (55%) say they tend to wear underwear under their kilts, whilst 38% go commando. A further 7% wear shorts, tights or something else.
