Hillwalkers in the Scottish Highlands are expressing their displeasure over an abandoned ironing board discovered atop Ben Nevis. The board was captured in a photograph last week, leaning against the dilapidated walls of the 19th-century Ben Nevis observatory.

Ironing Board Abandoned Atop Ben Nevis Sparks Outrage Among Highland Hillwalkers

While it’s not uncommon for individuals to carry household items to the summit of the UK’s highest mountain as part of charity fundraising efforts, the John Muir Trust, which shares responsibility for Ben Nevis’s management, emphasizes the importance of the “leave nothing behind” rule.

Notable instances of unconventional items reaching the peak include a former soldier carrying a fridge in April and a mountain rescuer lugging a 100kg (220lb) barbell in June to raise funds for motor neurone disease research. Among the reported oddities left on Ben Nevis are a church organ, a toilet seat and a 3ft garden gnome.

All of this made us wonder – How on earth did anybody carry a church organ up a mountain?
